ARIES (March 21-April 19)
If anyone is thinking about putting you to work for free, and more importantly, if you are thinking of doing it, I suggest you pass on the offer or get into negotiations soon. You may be feeling unusually inclined to carry forth what you feel is your life's devotion, but this you will do regardless of whether money is flowing. But since there is no shortage of cash anywhere but your bank account, I suggest you make sure you're well compensated along your quest for truth, justice and artistic mastery. Please don't stoop so low as to tell anyone, "We've all got to eat." Try something like, "I do brilliant work, and I'll trade you an autograph on one of your checks for some of it." Then, just close your mouth and stand there looking cute.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)
There's no telling what tricks close partners will be up to this week. With Mercury in the final steps of its retrograde choreography and the Sun about to change signs, it may seem like powerful and secretive people hold your fate and fortunes in their hands. You have nothing to lose by watching and waiting. Tuesday the 23rd should bring one major revelation, but the star files will still be spilling out information well into next week. Anything you act on or agree to too soon will need to be renegotiated anyway. But beware: though it goes against your grain, you may find yourself feeling quite impatient just when a little more bided time will be all it takes to do the trick.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)
There's no lack of intriguing, ominous or downright demented astrology working its wonders on your heart and mind. This is a kind way of saying that the stars may be testing your sanity, teasing you with promises and seducing you with, hmmm, images held up in dark mirrors where you see yourself change and evolve, even as you look into your own eyes. Yet isn't it so true that all seduction is self-seduction? Haven't you noticed that when you're willing to let go and allow the possibility of something beautiful or magic or mysteriously erotic to happen, most of the it just does? Let your eyes adjust to this strange light, and if you keep them open, you'll see what's really possible.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)
What would be the greatest risk you could take? How about putting forth your clearest vision and your strongest opinions, then expecting the support of key individuals who will help you bring yourself into the world with gusto? Most people temper what they think and say for the sake of gaining acceptability, and not just at work. Many men think the sexiest thing they can do is have neat hair, classy shoes and wear a nice watch. Many women sincerely feel they're the most attractive when they've ground every shred of individuality off of their personality and smell like they came out of a bottle. There's no room in your life for faux humanity. Please be you and only you, rough edges and all.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)
Something obvious that was unfolding, some kind of creative process or evolutionary leap, or was it an understanding about sexuality that you were developing with great success over the summer, is now demanding your full attention, mainly because you've been ignoring it. Why you would want to resist this particular project I haven't the least idea, though on second thought, perhaps it has something to do with understanding to what extent really blazing out in this way would go against the grain of modern humanity. In order to be alive, you will need to be very, very alive, and know the danger is in your mind.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)
I see you polishing a jewel of perfect devotion, aware that this is all you need to both attract and become the best the universe has to offer. Devotion is a waning art in a world that is based on getting the job done better, cheaper and faster. It is unknown among the legions of bored people with glazed eyes who do not know what they are doing, much less why they are doing it. And many confuse true devotion with imprisonment when really it points the way to many kinds of authentic freedom. Whatever magnificent feats you're able to manifest in the outer world of achievements and events this week, if you have any desire at all to do so, will be but a pale reflection of what happens inside the space you call home.

LIBRA (Sep. 23-Oct. 22)
It is said again and again in spiritual and psychological texts that selflove is the basis of all love. Yet as though this were some occult secret practiced by high priests of ancient lineage, this is not the lesson the world teaches. Few dare to speak the gospel of selflove, perhaps out of fear of being called egotistical, and fewer yet practice it, because its ways are so alien to what we currently know. But the truest love is the one that shines on itself, that surrounds itself in light, absorbing and radiating, aware and calling forth awareness, giving and calling forth forgiveness. So it is with you.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
Several years ago I lived in a house that was heated by wood, and that winter I learned the meaning of "tending the home fires." Wood stoves require labor, skill and an intuitive sense of how each individual one works. They need to be attended many times a day, and a mistake can burn down the house. But their heat is the best there is. It cuts through the damp and the cold like red sunshine. This is a metaphor for what you need in your home life. Though work obligations may be as demanding as ever, it's up to you not only to respect the limits on your strength and time, but to remember your need to create a warm, safe and quiet space.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 23-Dec. 21)
This is the year of no compromises. Even if you want to sleight yourself, you will find it difficult, if not impossible, so there is no point at all in resisting, or pretending what must be so; no point imagining you can hang out in the private reality of your desires and fantasies without acting on them directly, and with the full power of your spirit. This becomes increasingly natural as these months unfold, and as the extraordinary events of this next age of your life reveal themselves. You're becoming the highest manifestation of Sagittarius: the arrow of intention released from its bow, bound straight for its destination.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
I imagine you'll have no problem mustering up the emotional resolve to do what you need to do this week. The place to focus your energy, sharing and healing is on your emotional senses and responses; the softest and gentlest spot we both know is inside all the alleged complexities of Capricorn. Strange forces and unworldly intelligences may seem to guide you through the next few weeks of your life, though whenever the road appears dark, you can have faith that a light will appear in the most surprising places. Indeed, much that you would have never expected is about to make itself known, for the good of many.

AQUARIUS (Jan 19-Feb 18)
In the mythology of Saturn and Uranus, your two ruling planets, Saturn overthrew his father and took over as the big cheese of the gods, at least for a while. In astrological reality, Uranus, the great green world, archetype of innovation, rebellion and revolution, almost always gets his way, and has been known to topple great leaders ill-prepared to withstand his unfailing, unexpected onslaughts. For you, this is a very personal message about finally achieving a new level of independence from tradition, authority, control and limitations that served only to block your feelings and restrict the vast horizons you're destined to travel.

PISCES (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)
Rarely have the stars shined so brightly on your professional ambitions. If you think nobody is noticing, that is like an actor on a stage looking out into a massive audience, but seeing only the spotlight in his eyes. And if there is silence all around you, it is because people really are listening. Your challenge now is using the awesome natural forces working in your favor to boost your fortunes only in the areas where you seek to make them. Anything you are doing, and any project you now begin, has the power to turn to gold. But your challenge is to choose, consciously and precisely, only what you know you truly desire.

For the Faithful
"The I of humanity, it is true, has never been very strong -- saving only in a very few isloated individualities -- and our age is doubtless no more deprived in this regard than all that have gone before. But in our day a new fact must be reckoned with: the attempt is being made to drive out the I, to drive it out once and for all so as finally to be rid of it, this peculiar neighbor of ours, this confused indweller within. War is being waged against the I, the most dangerous of all wars, because it occurs to no one to declare it openly."
-- Jacques Lusseyran (1924-1971), the blind teenage leader of the French resistance during World War II, and survivor of the Buchenwald Nazi concentration camp.
