Cancer Birthday Reports 2005

Planet Waves by Eric Francis

Happy Birthday, Cancer!

An unusual constellation of forces is gathering in an effort to compel change that may seem long overdue, but which is really right on time. Your solar return chart this year has an unusual grouping of planets in your birth sign, consisting of Venus and Mercury in a conjunction with Saturn. These are joined by the Sun.

With this constellation of planetary forces working for you and building its energy as I write, there is no stopping you. Or rather, you are the only one who can do so, and the way you are most likely to do that is through fear. Therefore, deal with the fear first, which really has two aspects. One is listening to it. The other is giving yourself moments where you truly live as if it were not there; as if all that you fear is an imaginary figment that has nothing to do with reality.

Think of all the times in the past you were afraid of absolutely nothing at all. Yet now you have an opportunity to more than make up for wasted time or lost opportunities. There is something about you that is coming together, and coming together in a big way.

When you combine the presence of four Cancer planets (plus the wildcard Varuna, also in your sign — one of the most meaningful minor planets in use) with the effects of this week's Full Moon in your opposite sign, the message is to break free, be yourself, and relate to others eye to eye. Then, they will relate to you in this way. If you are feeling confidence, be assured it has nothing to do with any form of falseness or feigning. By all rights, you are feeling solid and capable; present in the world, and accomplished as well.

But if you're not, try living as if this is so. Try it for a day. Try it for an hour. See how it feels — and make room for the feeling.

In your dealings with others, allow yourself to be direct. You have plenty to relate with, and a great deal to offer the world, though in some ways you may feel it's all still trapped inside you; but don't worry. What is inside you is bound to be expressed in the world in the most creative and fulfilling ways, and in ways that last (because Saturn is involved).

You are now in a culmination moment of all that you've been building toward, day by day and week by week, as Saturn has worked its way through your sign. This has not been easy, but it's been moving: the Earth has moved, you have moved, and you shall soon see the strength and purpose of what you have built for yourself. Much that has occurred during the past two years of Saturn in Cancer will begin to make sense in the next few weeks and months.

You will see, if you are looking, that what you've accomplished has a value that can in fact be assessed with a dollar amount. This in no way detracts from your human gifts, your compassion or your sensitivity — or what you have shared with others where money is no factor at all. But you have earned your right to both survive and thrive on the gifts you have to offer the world. Go ahead — be the first person on your block to put these two things together.

And when you relate in an intimate way to others, or in a business setting, make sure that people affirm your value rather than detract from it. Stick with the people who pay you fairly. They benefit from you as well — most people do. The question is who makes sure that you get what you need. This sends your psyche an important signal. You're still quite susceptible to the impressions of others and you have to choose your witnesses and your accomplices carefully.

In these seasons of your life, you're finally positioned to collect on the efforts of your hard work. Yet there is a caution to be thorough rather than quick about these changes, even those that only involve becoming self-aware. Patience has served as an asset for this long — and it will continue to serve you as you complete this one phase of your life and finally, but for real, make your way into new territory in love, in work and in who you feel you are.

Happy Birthday Cancer!

It's most auspicious to have a New Moon around your birthday. New Moons are moments of completion, beginning and seeding the future. We could all use a little bit of that, and for Cancer, it's coming on strong and solid for you this year. I'll focus on these themes, which to some extent apply to everyone born under Cancer as well. And because Cancer, the sign of the Moon, is one of those signs that really applies to everyone in a big way, we all can look for clues, signposts and resources in this chart as well.

For added clarity, those with birthdays before the lunation can focus on the closure aspect primarily, those with birthdays after on the beginning aspect, and those very close to the lunation, on both aspects. However, it's not always so clear, as the new phase can have all of these properties in the week or so that it's in effect. For example, the last days before the New Moon are quite useful for planting seeds. But they are also a time when wrapping things up and getting ready to move along is generally a lot easier.

So hang loose with interpretations and feel how we're at this moment of a whole cycle renewing itself.

For many reasons, this New Moon represents a particularly strong turning point. For example, it's positioned in a square aspect to the lunar nodes, which represents a rather significant reassessment of your direction in life. There are strong markers along the lunar nodes for both profession and your location and the quality of your home. But what they both have in common is a quality of breaking free of your past influences of family, heritage and in particular your parents.

You are — it is true — positioned to do better, to think bigger and to live more securely than they do.

It is true that with Mars currently so well placed in your solar chart, you have considerable energy for climbing the mountain of life, and Jupiter says you've got a good reason for feeling a secure base beneath you.

But the real key to activating both is —in capital letters — BEING YOURSELF.

Part of BEING YOURSELF involves unhitching yourself from the influences of what everyone else wants you to become. And part involves being daring about pushing your best qualities out in the world, working or walking through the fear that often arises when creativity is activated, and developing yourself into the person you know you are inside. It's important to see the ways the past holds us back, and it's important to catch up with ourselves, find the present and take a few bold steps — soon.

Now, how could you go about BEING YOURSELF more effectively? There is a powerful shortcut suggested in the meaningful conjunction of Venus and Mercury in your 2nd solar house —the house of self-esteem, selflove, what you're worth and your most valuable personal resources. What you need to remember all the time is that you have plenty, you are plenty and you give people many good reasons to both work with you and support you.

I don't suggest you take these for granted; rather, I suggest you really meditate on them in a cognitive way and get clear about the emotions that might be holding you back from aligning with your self-worth. Learn something from your doubt. Learn why you don't always listen when you hear that your doubts are unfounded.

Later in the year there will be a time of reassessment of your personal stocks, so I suggest you begin an inner resources inventory now. You need to assess what you have within you, how it's used, what you feel is most valuable about you, and how you apply these resources. It would be reasonable to make this an ongoing project for the entire year, starting now. If you can do this, I think you'll make a series of discoveries and breakthroughs that will enhance your life in personal and economic ways, but more to the point, give you many reasons to feel good about who you are.

It's also a time to keep a little more for yourself rather than giving everything away so generously.

Saturn's change of signs in a few weeks will come with a genuine sense of pressure-drop and a sense of added freedom. Saturn has changed you, and you would be wise to assess the ways in which that is true. This is particularly true in your most personal relationships. The time has arrived to base those encounters on one thing only — a real meeting on the level of values. This, and this above all things, will restore a sense of balance to your life.

One last note related to the essay above. Varuna is prominent in your birthday chart this year, and prominent in your life over a period of several important years. The Sun and Moon making an exact conjunction on Varuna, near your Sun, offers you a chance to strengthen your ability to make and keep commitments. You have a chance to be the equal of others who once seemed so powerful.

There is a promise of balancing out your ability, somewhat unique for a Cancer, to be both receptive and assertive; to give and to receive; to service in your environment as an activating factor, and as one who is counted on to be available and in the background. You are both — but then, you do very well at being many things to many people.

Happy Birthday, Cancer!

Think of yourself as a vast, invisible force behind the scenes.

We tend to think of success as a worldly experience of moving up. That is, if we even get that far; if we manage to think of life as anything other than a struggle for security and survival. Finally, you've begun to go past those limited ideas of what it means to be alive. Finally, you've begun to overcome your fears and insecurities. You have been through so much, and you've just begun.

So, success. It's not really a ladder. It's a state of mind, and for you, it's not about going up. Rather, I propose that you are spreading out, and operating in a way that even you cannot perceive entirely. But you do have clues, and one of those clues is that your world has gradually become a safer place in the past year; you have more resources available to you than ever, and you may have for the first time a sense of yourself that is tangible and solid —rather than being emotional and watery. This is a very good start.

Emotions are important. Feelings are truly vital. People depend on your compassion. But you need to keep your emotions under control; you need a grip. And you've slowly got a grip over the past couple of years, and you've done a good job coming to terms with all that used to shake you up or undermine you from the inside.

In a very real sense, you have become the main authority in your life; you have become the one person whose word you trust the most. And you have earned your privilege.

Now, you're going to unleash a torrent of energy when it comes to developing how resourceful you are, and take the lead exploring your financial potential. You have been holding back a long time; you have been getting ready; you have been learning from your experiences. Now, you make a big move. There may be someone involved in this process, but I suggest you keep as independent as possible, following a pattern that has worked very well for you.

Learn from others, accept their assistance, listen to their ideas. But make your own decisions, and keep just your name on the deed, and be very cautious about situations involving joint finances. If people try to guilt you, disappear down the nearest stairwell.

This kind of financial independence you are creating will do more for your relationships than you can imagine; money is the metaphor for your personal independence, as well as your independence from the ideas and influences of your parents.

If you can get yourself past those struggles that do manage to hang up most of the human race, you will find that you're a truly independent and mature person relating to others in the same way.

Happy Birthday Cancer!

This must be a mysterious time for you. The whole cosmos feels like it's in freefall. And right around your solar return, Saturn shifts into Leo, into your house of personal resources, self esteem, and financial health.

From the look of such a striking development, it's clear that you're on the verge of something, perhaps a difficult decision about yourself and your life. But what does this decision really involve? What is the most important value operating beneath what you're feeling? Go to a deeper level and investigate. I suggest you take nothing at face value now.

But remember: Beneath the face of everything is how you feel about yourself. Understanding, developing and refining your relationship to you is the essence of Saturn in Leo. The previous two years have done much to eliminate what does not belong, and to clear away space for what may be. Now, you're at the point where your primary responsibility shifts to understanding the mysterious ways in which small developments in self-awareness can change the whole world.

Saturn in Leo is an entirely inward experience for you, which is truly good news. When we really do the work of Saturn, which is acting in the way most responsible to ourselves, we open up enormous resources, even limitless resources. For you (and indeed for all Cancers, and Cancer rising) this transit occurs in a region of your chart where you're already quite well endowed. To have Leo as your 2nd house suggests that you really do have an enormous amount to offer, and that your best approach to life would be to do just that.

The movement of this planet is a development in a long story of coming to terms with yourself. It follows many long phases of introspection, and perhaps of loneliness. The current movement represents a time of deep focus on what you feel you value most about yourself and in the world. This is not merely passive reflection, though; Saturn's method is by a gradual deepening of commitment and the resulting expression. This is a time of experimenting on the most practical daily level with your emotional responses, your choices, and how these are all mediated by your value of yourself.

At a certain point, in discovering the truth about yourself, you will encounter all the lies you were told about yourself. This is not for about another year or so, and you have that time to get prepared for that encounter by exploring the reality of what is true beyond everything that is not true. In a sense, you will be peeling back the layers of who you were on a quest for someone you are, who for a time only you will know.

And from that unique and beautiful viewpoint, you will relate to the world as the person you truly are inside. Go beyond your supposed motives; beyond how you think you feel. Look at the simple fact of your existence, and what this implies. No question is too great or too small in this process, and each response from your soul is a gift you give to yourself, and if you choose, to the world.
