ARIES (March 21-April 19)
If you're harboring that tense anxiety more appropriate for when you're driving down a highway waiting for a huge storm to hit, don't worry -- you are that storm. And if things, as in your entire life, starts to move very very fast all at once, keep your mind and your eyes on the road. Please, no steering with your knees while spreading the anchovies more evenly on your pizza. You don't need to drive the "other" one way down any one-way streets. And as most brilliant, eccentric, radical, outrageous, creative, bizarre, far-out, far-flung, incomprehensible, iconoclastic people dealing with those weirdoes in official positions of power and authority have learned, it pays to be a bit of a politician, and to never forget who your friends are.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)
In your pursuit of a goal or your striving to make something happen, you risk running straight into an obstacle. If you would take your eyes off your goal for more than one/sixty-seventh of a second, you would physically see this thing toward which you're careening. But you seem reluctant to do so, to simply stop and think, to walk and not run, to sit down for a moment rather than go anywhere at all. It turns out that what you're seeking is closer than you think it is, but that you have not considered whether this is something that you want or need at all, and whether there's something much more important to wrap your mind around at this very moment.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)
It's vital that you now shift the locus of your awareness to your internal reality. Identifying too strongly with your environment -- the world of any and all externals, including your job function, your friends, the media, the state of your sexual and emotional relationships (amazing, horrible or otherwise) -- gets a little riskier every day. Don't worry that it will take any kind of great miracle or spontaneous enlightenment to help you put your consciousness where it belongs; it will merely require the decision to do so, and investing a little time each day in some reflective activity, such as writing, drawing, walking, reading Tarot cards, or playing some fun game with a mirror.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)
As the slow moon drifts through your opposite sign Capricorn between Wednesday night and Saturday morning, you and your Cancer-rising cousins will have marvelous opportunities to observe the emotional complexities of humanity. Among the valid generalizations of astrology is that it's the natural tendency of Cancer-types to help, heal and hold the world in its moments of pain and struggle. But I suggest you invest your time observing at first, and seeing what the real nature of the difficulty is, before you plunge into Galactic Healer mode. Close partners are going through important difficulties, and it won't be till at least the weekend that you have a clue what's really up.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)
There was a time when you were indeed impossible to shock or stun, when you took all the events of the world in stride. Those days are gone, and your psychological makeup has become more influenced by conscious insecurities, doubts and many shades of gray appearing where once were only solid black and white. This process is known as maturing. And though doubt can creep into even the most profound revelation of truth, when taken consciously, doubt can point the way to faith. To have this work, the operative word is conscious, for then the disturbances in your mind can lead straight to revelations, ideas and love.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)
Not that you lack sensitivity, but you're about to become a lot more sensitive all at once. There will be this margin over which you cross, and just prior, your mind will have a tendency to run away on emotional energy that is percolating up from the deeper strata of your life. Easy does it; there is a distortion involved, and the interference will seem to burst like the bubble that it is before you know it. At this point, you'll have a natural tendency to examine the past, and the path you've taken to get here, and the legacy you've inherited from those who have come before. Take a good look. Have a good listen. Then move on.

LIBRA (Sep. 23-Oct. 22)
If you keep your antennas up, you may notice that you're gradually being nonchalantly hemmed into a situation that, once you figure out that it's happened, and how good old so-and-so and his secretary Miss Whatshisname have has enticed you to walk precisely into it, you'll probably be a bit pissed off that you didn't see it coming sooner. To avoid said situation, take heed now that you don't forfeit any of your choices, no matter how much authority, intimidation or sweet talk people use on you. Seemingly little decisions you make today will have effects for weeks. Just keep your options open.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
Choose your battles, on the interpersonal plane and in the project dimension. It is safe to assume that you are right about most of what you feel and perceive, and that your ideas at the moment are truly brilliant, but less safe to assume that people are going to agree with you all, or even most, of the time. Since you are probably experiencing considerable passion around the activities of your life and all that your mind is conjuring, if somebody crosses your path or puts up a block of some kind, you will have a tendency to want to destroy them. They may well deserve it, but it will be a waste of your precious time, serenity and emotional resources. Focus on what's important and you'll have your impact.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 23-Dec. 21)
There is very little point to lingering on the edge of commitments, seemingly undecided which way you want to go. The pressure is not so much from the "necessity to change" as it is from the simple awareness of what you already know, and cannot pretend you don't know. That the beginning you're anticipating has not quite arrived matters not. You are at the crucial ending of a cycle you don't really understand, and endings can be difficult, whether laced with bitterness, sadness or a sense of lost opportunity. But really they are most difficult when they are unconscious. So if you find yourself in the dark, try igniting the light of your mind.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
You may not think it's quite the time to think bigger. That is for next year, no? But do you think you're going to do it all at once? There are many processes involved in integrating yourself into the ever-widening spheres of the universe as you perceive it. One of them involves what you do with your sense of individuality. We all possess this sense, call it sense number zero, and for the most part we keep it secret, lest we offend anyone's political, sexual or fashion sensibilities. Events this week seem destined to demonstrate or provoke your understanding that it really is safe to be the you nobody knows.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 19-Feb. 18)
If forces beyond your control seem destined to get you to change your mind, perhaps consider that it's nothing other than the impact of your own ideas compelling you to pay attention. My take on the Aquarius situation has been that this year has involved a kind of final struggle in your life between idealism and dogma; between clinging to ideas and mental structures of the past, and allowing them to be broken open, but moreover, allowing into your consciousness a kind of faith in the power of the unseen world that many of your highly ingenious ilk are given to think is unverifiable bullshit. Not everything intelligent has a brain.

PISCES (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)
Now that you've seen what you can do without, and how well you can survive be without all the benefits that fill in the cracks of life, you will appreciate the good things that are coming even more. Be mindful of what you resolved in this process that you did not know you were resolving. Much of it involves what you do in the face of missing information. As the secrets are finally revealed over the coming days and weeks, and, perhaps, as that long-awaited news catches up with you, please consider carefully what your expectations were, and reflect on why they were so much lower than what actually came to pass.

For the Faithful
As the Sun swings toward the Capricorn solstice, we move into some of the most energetically compressed days of the year, and one of the most psychically charged moments in human history. "Having enough time" is one of the great challenges of our era, though as far as I can tell the issue is beyond both time and space and involves what you might call creating an inner opening in space-time that feels like serenity or inner liberation. Demands of the outer world are now running high, if not out of control. Families, obligations, shopping, getting things done before the holidays, and, somewhere in there, the collective sense of transition of this new year are all factors. But please forget the world every now and then. It deserves it.++
